CNN Announces Second GOP Town Hall

Coming off a controversial town hall with former President Donald Trump, CNN is pushing ahead with another GOP presidential candidate.

CNN host Jake Tapper will moderate the town hall with former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley.

It will take place in Iowa on June 4th in front of a live audience.

CNN’s press release states, “This Town Hall will be the second in CNN’s robust slate of Republican Presidential Town Halls produced as part of the network’s expansive coverage of the 2024 election. Additional CNN Town Halls will be announced in the coming weeks.”

“CNN’s Republican Presidential Town Hall with former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley moderated by Jake Tapper will stream live, without requiring a cable log-in, on CNN.com’s homepage and across mobile devices via CNN’s apps for iOS and Android, and CNN OTT and mobile apps under “TV Channels,” or CNNgo where available. The town hall will also be available On Demand beginning Monday, June 5 to pay TV subscribers via CNN.com, CNN OTT apps, and Cable Operator Platforms.”

Haley’s town hall follows Senator Tim Scott’s announcement, a fellow South Carolinian Republican, as well as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ much anticipated announcement.

Haley Expands Position on Abortion

Ahead of the town hall, Haley was yet again questioned about her beliefs on abortion at a New Hampshire event.

Since launching her campaign in February, where she became the only woman in the primary field thus far, she has been intentionally vague on federal abortion legislation other than to say she is pro-life.

Pressed again, she stated, “No one has been honest” about how difficult it would be to get a federal abortion ban on a president’s desk.

“It would take a majority of the House, 60 senators and a president to sign it,” she said. “We haven’t had 60 Republican senators in 100 years.”

She reinforced her belief that “it’s back in the states where it belongs” after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, yet said that if federal legislation made it to her desk as president, she would sign it.
